Experience a day in the life of a stuttering researcher

I interviewed one of my colleagues in the University of Michigan Speech Neurophysiology Lab and wrote about a day in their (work) life. The article was published in Michigan Medicine Headlines and on the Department of Psychiatry’s newsroom. The story was also featured in the Headlines newsletter as part of Better Hearing and Speech Month.

Preventing pediatric suicide one voice at a time

I wrote an article highlighting a new pediatric suicide prevention initiative at the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. The piece was published in Michigan Medicine Headlines and highlighted as a featured story in their newsletter.

As part of this initiative, I also designed print and digital flyers that were displayed throughout the hospital, significantly increasing participation in the kickoff survey.

From basal ganglia to basic lingua

As a communicator at the University of Michigan Medical School, my work often involves distilling complex scientific concepts into concise and readable formats for a general audience. Here’s an example of a piece I wrote summarizing a peer-reviewed article all about the neurobiology of stuttering. The piece was published on the Speech Neurophysiology Lab’s newsroom and featured in the Department of Psychiatry’s internal newsletter.

To see how effectively I translated these complex topics, be sure to compare my piece with the original article published in PLOS Biology.
